About

I'm Ahmed Hossam, a software engineer at the Open Transit Software Foundation, where I work on OneBusAway, an open source transit project that helps millions of riders every day get to work, see their families, and get where they need to go.

I first joined OneBusAway through Google Summer of Code in 2024. I kept contributing after that and eventually joined the team, where I've been working ever since. In 2026 I also took on a GSoC mentor role, helping new contributors find their footing the same way I once did.

Most of my work is around backend systems, APIs, open source, and lately a lot of Go. I like understanding how things work, especially when something makes me genuinely curious. When that happens, I tend to go pretty deep: reading, building, breaking things, asking questions, and trying again until it makes sense.

This site is mostly a place for that. I write about software, things I'm learning, projects I'm working on, and things I notice. I also write about my interests, life, philosophy, and whatever else happens to be on my mind.
